About us

Meet Holly & Sheldon

We moved to Nova Scotia in 2015 from Alberta ready for a change of pace and with the thought of starting some type of farm, but we weren’t sure what we wanted to grow.

Holly’s parents were already living just outside of Tatamagouche, so we settled on their property in a tiny home we built while we developed our land just a km down the road, where our blueberry field and home are now. After deciding we wanted to start a highbush blueberry u-pick, one of the first things we did was clear a 2 acre area and plant 1000 highbush blueberry plants. Clearly a labour of love, we pulled off all of the flowers for the first 2 years to help the plants establish healthy roots, and hand picked caterpillars and bugs that we were challenged with. Although we aren’t certified organic, we don’t want to use chemicals, so dealing with some of those pests early on was challenging. Hurricane Dorian took about 50 plants out, but otherwise everything has fared very well.

2020 was our first year of production at 50%, and although we weren’t planning to, we had to open our u-pick because we had more berries than we could handle ourselves. Even with all the covid rules, we were pleased with how the year went.

2021 was our first year at full production. We are grateful for each and every person who has enjoyed our blueberries and those that will in the years to come.

Our yellow Labrador retriever, Zoe is our unofficial mascot and we are joined by our other dog Tug and young son who also help out on the farm.

We look forward to another great season!
